…here is a family favorite dessert recipe that my kids and husband begged me to make for valentines day. it’s called “oreo madness” after the tgi friday dessert. i don’t think they offer this dessert there anymore which is a total shame!
step 1: grease a 9 x 11 cake pan.
step 2: put 1 and 1/2 packages of oreo cookies and pulse in a food processor until the cookies are fully crumbled.
step 3: melt 1 and 1/2 sticks of butter and add it to the crumb mixture and mix until well absorbed.
step 4: put half the crumb mixture in a 9 x 11 cake pan and press down to form a bottom crust.

step 5: take 2 gallons of slightly softened ice cream and scoop it onto the oreo crust.


step 6: smooth out ice cream layer with a spatula.

step 7: add the rest of the crumb mixture to the top layer of ice cream.

step 8: even out and spread out the top layer to fully cover the ice cream.

step 9: cover and return to freezer for 1 hour.
step 10: cut and serve with drizzled caramel and chocolate sauce.

instead of working all weekend long like i normally do, i decided to not be such a jerk and surprised my kids by taking them to the kindercrafter fair on saturday. we all had some yummy addictive kettle corn
fresh squeezed lemonade
wow that’s sour!
ewan found some of his friends and hung out on the cannon in the square
ewan and cameron got along great
they jumped around
and around
ewan cried when the time limit on the bouncy bounce expired
but he got over it when he got to sit in a real firetruck!
but then cried again when i asked him to sit on the front bumper with his sister….check out the dirty look from cam…
ewan kept grabbing his friend maddy and walking her around
they were so cute!

…butterscotch marble cake…holy yumminess! I am not the biggest fan of cakes, especially when it is competing with ice cream. I would prostitute myself for ice cream if it were not so fattening….but that’s a whole different topic we can cover some other day. I saw this delightful sight on BAKE OR BREAK.
My birthday and my daughters birthday are Sunday! The last time my daughter Cameron’s birthday was on Mothers day was the day she was born….almost 11 years ago! What a birthday present huh? How time flies. Anyways, I think I might make this delightfully yummy looking cake for a surprise birthday party on the 9th for a dear friend….so don’t tell anyone ok??? It will be our little secret.
As promised, here is the first wedding post featuring myself and my husband Brian. We didn’t have a lot of money so many of the elements regarding the wedding were hand-made and created by the both of us. It was a late summer wedding and it was extremely hot that day so don’t mind the special glow we had!

Since my whole family was from out of town, they all stayed at the Kinderhook Bed and Breakfast. Owners Jayne Hester and Bill Laraway have a beautiful home that served as the perfect backdrop for those pre-ceremony photos.

The groomsmen had some fun posing after some famously known photos.
Tuxedos were provided by Rodino’s in Troy, New York.
All three of my flower girls wore pink hydrangea flower crowns and carried a flower bucket custom made by me. I attached pink tulle, velvet ribbon and jewel embellishments to ordinary tin buckets from the local hardware store. All wedding flowers were provided by The Rosery Flower Shop.

The Rosery Flower shop also continued the bucket theme with ribbons and gorgeous pink and white flowers that adorned each aisle row.

Soon after our first dance, it started to rain very hard. A tornado watch was declared and the wind starting blowing over flower arrangements and blowing out candles! We feared that all the wedding guests would have to seek shelter in the nearby firehouse……
The storm subsided momentarily revealing the most beautiful electric blue sky. Our photographer got a pretty good shot of it.
Our ceremony took place at our local firehouse in Niverville. They had the perfect outdoor pavilion that they would rent out for storage in the winter months. It needed much work to make it look suitable for a wedding reception. But all it really took were some gorgeous green linens, tables and reception chairs provided by Party Rentals Ltd. We also added our own touches with the lighting. Notice the globe lights that surround the pavilion perimiter. Brian and I also made hundreds of hanging candle lanterns made out of mason jars. There was beautiful candlelight glowing from every open beam of the pavilion ceiling.

One of the best compliments I recieved about my wedding was that my guests said that they forgot where they were. The moment they stepped into the firehouse pavilion, they felt like they were at a fancy venue…not at their local rescue squad.
I love desserts! I couldn’t play favorites with any one particular sweet, so my guests got a complete table devoted to sugary indulgences. I opted out of regular wedding cake and went for cheesecake. Our family has always celebrated special occasions with cheesecake. The recipe has been in the family for generations. The display cheesecakes were made by my sister and matron of honor, Traci.
One of the reasons I married Brian was his ability to always make me laugh. No matter what is going on in our lives, he always helps me keep my chin up and look at the positive. I hope we continue to live our lives this way: brightly positive and together.
